The event in 2023
The 23rd Barcelona International New Rose Competition took place over the weekend of 12 to 14 May 2023 at the Parc de Cervantes rose garden. The competition always coincides with the first rose bloom and rewards the best new specimens created by rose breeders from around the world, based on the judgments of a prestigious international jury.
This Barcelona competition is part of an international circuit that awards prizes for the best new rose varieties, and ensures the city’s status as a key point of reference in this sector. The 2023 edition featured 30 breeders from 12 countries (Germany, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, the United States, Spain, France, Italy, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Poland and the Republic of South Africa), presenting a total of 92 new rose varieties.
In addition to the international expert jury, new roses are evaluated by the Castell de Sant Foix School, the Mare de Déu de Montserrat School, representatives from the Barcelona Senior Citizens’ Council, and the Jury of Master Perfumers, which determines the rose variety with the best fragrance and provides a written description.
