Phytosanitary treatments

Barcelona City Council puts up signage when vegetation is undergoing pest control treatment, in accordance with:

  • The current regulations stemming from Royal Decree 1311/2012.
  • Directive 2009/128/EC of the European Parliament, which mandates the requirement to put up signage on plant protection treatments on vegetation located in public areas.

The signage provides advance notice of the type of treatment that will be carried out on the trees or in certain areas, such as dog parks, which are disinfected monthly.

Companies that carry out plant protection treatments must be registered with the official Register of Pest Control Establishments and Services, as required by Decree 149/1997 of the Generalitat de Catalunya (DOGC 23/6/97), the order from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (MAPA) dated 24 February 1993 (BOE 4/3/93), as well as the official Register of Producers and Operators (ROPO), Royal Decree 1311/2012 of 14 September, when applicable within the territorial scope. Following the publication of Royal Decree 1311/2012, they must manage their operations according to Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices.
