Work on connecting the new Can Batlló cistern with the one that already exists in Montjuïc between the Olympic Ring and the Pau Negre CEM began in summer, and will take seven months to complete. The budget is €3 million. The trench runs down Carrer del Foc and along the full length of Passeig de la Zona Franca, past Plaça Ildefons Cerdà and along the initial stretch of Avda. Carrilet to reach the new Parc de la Bordeta. A pipeline will also be installed in C/ Mare de Déu de Port to supply water to the gardens of Can Farrero, Can Mestres, Ca l’Alena and Mediterrània, together with another in C/ Minería as far as Can Sabaté park. The trench will affect the pavement on the Besòs side of the Passeig Zona Franca between Cisell and Motors (running down towards the Marina del Prat Vermell) from 18 November to 20 December.

During the same week, on the other side of the mountain work also began to extend the Montjuïc groundwater network and connect it with that of Poble Sec. Over the next year, a new underground cistern with a capacity of 1,222 m3 will be built in the Santa Eulàlia moat, a 600 m3 cistern next to the lower basin of the Viver dels Tres Pins and the two groundwater wells that will supply the existing cistern below the Plaça Bella Dorita will be completed. A total budget of 7.1 million euros has been earmarked for the works. These three cisterns will be connected via drive pipes to carry the water up the mountain, and gravity-assisted irrigation will be used to take it to the fountains and gardens of the Grec, Laribal and L’Umbracle.

Furthermore, a new 600 m3 cistern will also be built in the area around the Joan Brossa gardens, with an allocated budget of €3.3 million. The works are expected to be complete in eight months, by the summer of 2025. This cistern will also be connected to the one in Plaça Bella Dorita by a pressure pipe. Next year, the new gravity irrigation network for the Joan Brossa gardens will also need to be built, starting from this new cistern.
