The goal is to offer a better-quality service at the beach bars along the city’s coast, bringing benefits too for staff at these establishments with aspects such as training in gender and non-discrimination, subcontracting companies in the social economy and taking on people who are unemployed or suffering social exclusion.

Other criteria to be taken into account are:

• Experience of staff in the restaurant sector, knowledge of foreign languages and, for the first time, knowledge of Catalan (with a B2 certificate level).
• Water and energy efficiency, waste and food waste management and environmental quality certificates.
• The establishment of maximum prices for some products (for instance, water, soft drinks and sandwiches), food options with quality local produce and menus adapted to special needs.
• Improvements to toilets for use by the public during the beach season.

Fourteen locations to cover all the beaches

The tendering process for 14 locations at the beaches is opening, eight with parasol and sun lounger services, three beach bars, and three points offering parasols and sun loungers. Five (two at the Nova Icària and three at Bogatell) have had to halve the number of loungers and parasols due to the reduction in the volume of sand at the city’s beaches.

The points being offered out to tender must provide services for four seasons, between 2026 and 2029. They are:

1. Sant Sebastià beach, beach bar and parasol and sun lounger service (50 loungers and 25 parasols).
2. Sant Sebastià beach, beach bar.
3. Sant Sebastià beach, beach bar.
4. Sant Miquel beach, beach bar and parasol and sun lounger service (50 loungers and 25 parasols).
5. Sant Miquel beach, beach bar.
6. Barceloneta beach, parasol and sun lounger service (100 loungers and 50 parasols).
7. Somorrostro beach, parasol and sun lounger service (100 loungers and 50 parasols).
8. Somorrostro beach, parasol and sun lounger service (100 loungers and 50 parasols).
9. Nova Icària beach, beach bar and parasol and sun lounger service (50 loungers and 25 parasols).
10. Nova Icària beach, beach bar and parasol and sun lounger service (50 loungers and 25 parasols).
11. Bogatell beach, beach bar and parasol and sun lounger service (50 loungers and 25 parasols).
12. Bogatell beach, beach bar and parasol and sun lounger service (50 loungers and 25 parasols).
13. Bogatell beach, beach bar and parasol and sun lounger service (50 loungers and 25 parasols).
