Advice on avoiding the spread of swine fever among wild boar in Collserola

The Government of Catalonia has activated a special set of control, prevention and biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever after an outbreak was detected in wild boar. Access for sport and other leisure activity is restricted in the whole of the Parc de Collserola. Access to the Parc del Tibidabo is not affected.

A double security perimeter has been established: one strict zone of 6 kilometres around the point affected in Cerdanyola del Vallès, affecting 12 municipalities, and a second of 20 kilometres affecting 64 municipalities, including Barcelona.

Specific restrictions apply in this second perimeter:

  • Limits on activities linked to leisure, hunting and biodiversity.
  • Prohibition of activity that might interfere with tasks to control the wild boar population and biodiversity.
  • Access restricted to the whole of the Parc del Collserola for leisure activities.

There is also a series of recommendations for citizens and municipalities:

  • Intensify cleaning of litter bins and containers.
  • In the case of cat colonies, locate feeders at elevated points and clear food left by the animals to prevent it being available to wild boar.
  • Warn people that it is prohibited to feed wild boar.
  • Close picnic areas until further notice.
  • If you come across a dead or sick wild boar, do not touch it and call 112
  • Dispose of rubbish in waste containers with lids which wild boar cannot access.
