Living heritage: transforming the urban landscape

Barcelona is a benchmark in the promotion of urban greenery and biodiversity, integrating nature and urban planning in a model that prioritises sustainability.

The city boasts a rich natural heritage, with more than 600 green spaces. Of particular note are over fifty centuries-old and collection gardens, remarkable for their unique character and landscape value, living documents that reflect the city’s culture and history.

The year 2026 will be a landmark one, as Barcelona will also host the World Congress of Architecture and serve as the World Capital of Architecture. It will furthermore commemorate the Gaudí Year, marking the centenary of the death of the city’s most iconic architect and the opening of Park Güell as a public park.
