URBAN LANDSCAPE

URBAN LANDSCAPE STUDIES

This is a landscape-survey macro project for studying the characteristics and distinctive features of the city’s various neighbourhoods, and analysing both the opportunities they present and their weak points. It is an essential tool for launching the urban environment’s new heritage, urban-planning and design strategies.

URBAN LANDSCAPE USES

Urban landscapes are a fundamental part of a city’s environment, and require protection if they are to provide city residents with a suitable quality of life. The regulatory framework for land use in Barcelona is the Byelaw on Urban Land Use, which aims to protect, maintain and improve the fundamental values underpinning the urban landscape, as well as the image of the city of Barcelona.

PARTY-WALL PLAN

Party walls are walls that become exposed to view as a result of urban-planning changes, and that remain permanently in a ‘provisional state’, creating discontinuity in the urban landscape and causing construction and habitability problems for local residents.

The Party-Wall Plan addresses this issue, integrating these wall with the adjacent buildings and the urban landscape, and improving habitability.

SMALL LANDSCAPES

Barcelona is full of urban nooks and crannies and that add character to the city. These are places that preserve the collective memory, and we want to identify them, restore them, protect them, and enhance their value in this inventory that cover around two hundred small landscapes.
