Barcelona Superblock. Berlin, Vienna, Rotterdam, Bogotá and Los Angeles have already adapted the Barcelona model and over 250 cities and countries have asked for technical information.
The C40 World Mayors Summit recognises the Barcelona Superblock model as a successful project for transforming the city and an international example. Global capitals such as Berlin, Vienna, Rotterdam, Bogotá and Los Angeles have already adapted and applied the model, which in the last two years has attracted the interest of over 250 cities and countries, seeking detailed information on the Barcelona Superblock model from technical services at the City Council.
Barcelona shared its Superblock model at the C40 World Mayors Summit, which is being held in Buenos Aires from 19 to 21 October. The event also includes explanations of leading experiences to move towards greener and more liveable cities, such as the 15-Minute City in Paris, London’s Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and the Strade Apperte in Milan.
The summit has also offered more details on other city projects which have started to apply the Barcelona Superblock model after technical cooperation between city councils. The projects inspired by the Catalan capital and seeking to gain green space and pedestrian space, cut pollution by private vehicles, promote public transport and strengthen local economies are:
- Park Blocks (Los Angeles)
- Barrios Vitales (Bogotá)
- Kiezblocks (Berlin)
- Superbloc Oude Westen (Rotterdam)
- Supergrätzl (Vienna)
